Personal Branding
Photography London
Natural, professional images for women who hate being in front of the camera.
I'm Claire Ballard, a personal branding photographer based in South East London. I help women who are building businesses and who have been putting the photos off for months, create images they're genuinely proud to use.
What is Personal Branding Photography?
You might have come across the term and not been entirely sure what it means in practice. Here's the simple version.
Personal branding photography is a set of professional images that shows who you are, not just what you look like. Instead of a single portrait, you end up with a collection of natural, varied photographs that capture your personality, the way you work, and what it feels like to be in your world. Images you can use across your website, LinkedIn, social media, press features, podcasts and speaking bios.
A headshot tells people you exist. Personal branding photographs tell people who you are and why they should work with you. The difference matters.
If your business runs on your expertise and your personality, that distinction makes a real difference.
And most importantly, they help you show up online with confidence.
Confident, natural, professional PHOTOGRAPHS with NO AWKWARD POSING
Why Personal Branding Photography Matters
Why does this matter for you?
People want to connect with the person behind the business and having a bank of professional brand photographs makes it much easier to show up consistently and confidently in your business. It helps you:
• Show up online without constantly worrying about what image to use
• Build trust and credibility with people discovering you for the first time
• Present yourself professionally across your website, LinkedIn and social media
• Stand out in a crowded market where many businesses rely on stock imagery
• Attract clients who connect with your personality and values
• Support PR opportunities, speaking engagements and collaborations
For many of my clients, having professional images becomes the turning point where they finally feel comfortable being visible in their business.
Whether you’re a coach, consultant, entrepreneur or small business owner, a strong personal brand positions you as an authority in your field and allows you to build meaningful relationships with your audience.
Many clients ask how personal branding photography actually supports visibility and confidence. I’ve written more about this in my guide to preparing for a personal branding photoshoot, here.
Hate HAVING YOUR PHOTO TAKEN?
You’re definitely not alone. In fact, most of my clients begin by telling me exactly the same thing:
“I’m really not photogenic.”
“I feel awkward in front of the camera.”
“I never know what to do with my hands.”
If that sounds familiar, you’re in exactly the right place.
I specialise in working with people who find this hard. Not "a bit nervous" hard. More like "I've been putting this off for two years" hard. My job is to make it manageable. I'll guide you through everything: where to stand, how to move, how to get expressions that feel natural rather than performed.
Most clients arrive nervous. They all say afterwards it was much easier and more fun than they expected.
If you’re feeling unsure about being in front of the camera, you might find this helpful to read first.
- RACHEL GOTH
“I usually don't like photos of myself because I don't feel they look like me. Claire put me at ease from the start. I didn't need to wear make-up or do silly poses. I didn't even need to find my own location for the shoot. And I got to take my Dog with me! The photos were fabulous, especially the ones with my dog in them too. My only problem was whittling it down to the final selection. If you don't like getting your photo taken, Claire will make it easy, fun, and you'll love the photos as well.”
Why Work With Me?
Before I became a photographer, I spent more than 20 years working in marketing, communications and advertising, helping businesses and individuals think carefully about how they present themselves to the world.
That background changes how I approach a shoot. When we're planning your session, I'm not just thinking about what will look good. I'm thinking about who needs to see these images, what they need to communicate, and how they'll work across your website, LinkedIn, social media and press features. We're building something that does a job for your business, not just a set of nice pictures.
On the day itself:
Full direction throughout. I'll guide every pose and expression. You don't need to know what you're doing. That's my job.
Relaxed and unhurried. There's no pressure to perform. Sessions tend to feel more like a conversation that happens to be photographed.
Sensitive, honest retouching. I'll take care of the things you can't control on the day: a spot, a late night, tired eyes. What I won't do is airbrush you into someone you don't recognise. You'll look like you, just you on a really good day.
Images planned around how you'll use them. Every session is built around your content needs: website, LinkedIn, social media, press, speaking bios. One shoot, several months of visual content sorted.
Who is This For?
Many of my clients are women running their own businesses across London, who want to be more visible online but feel uncomfortable being photographed. My personal branding photography photoshoots are perfect for:
Coaches, consultants, authors and service providers
Entrepreneurs and small business owners
Women founders looking to increase visibility
Corporate professionals needing updated headshots

“From the moment we started, Claire had a real talent for putting me at ease, I felt relaxed and comfortable throughout the entire shoot.
What stood out most was how genuinely engaged she was. You could tell she cared about every single shot, bringing real energy and attention to each moment. The results speak for themselves, I had such difficulty choosing my final images because the standard across the whole gallery was so high that I ended up going back for a second round of selections.
I highly recommend Claire to anyone looking for a photographer who combines real skill with a warm, professional approach.”
How Does it Work?
-

Let's have a chat
To get started just fill in this quick form, drop me a message or call me. There's no commitment. It's a chance to work out whether this is right for you, and for me to understand what you need.
-

Planning your shoot
Once you're booked, I'll send you a brand discovery questionnaire to understand you, your business, and what these images need to do. You'll also get a full prep guide covering clothing, locations and everything else you need to know. And we'll have a pre-shoot call so you go into the day knowing exactly what to expect. No surprises.
-

The shoot itself
I’ll guide you through every step so you feel relaxed and confident. From getting the right expressions to poses that are natural for you. It might be hard to believe, but it will be relaxed and great fun.
-

Your photographs
About two weeks after your photoshoot, I’ll send your gallery through so you can select the photographs you would like. They will be professionally edited and ready for you to use with confidence.
-

After the shoot
This is where a lot of photographers stop. I don't. I'll send you a practical guide to making the most of your images: what to post, where to use them, and how to get real value out of what we created. Because photographs that sit in a folder aren't doing anything for your business.
If you've been sitting on this for a while, you're not alone. Most of my clients have. There's always a reason to wait. Until things are a bit less busy. Until you've lost a bit of weight. Until you feel more ready.
The photos don't care about any of that. And neither do I.
The first step is just a conversation. No pressure, no commitment. Just a chat to work out whether we're a good fit.
Ready When You Are
— TINA PERRIDGE“My colleague and I used Claire when we needed new photos for our website and social media. Claire was fantastic. She really took the time to understand what we needed and who we are. Endlessly patient and a real eye for the images that worked and represented us. We were delighted with the results and can heartily recommend her.”
Frequently Asked Questions About Personal Branding Photography
-
A headshot is a single professional portrait, typically showing your face and shoulders, used for LinkedIn, company websites or professional profiles. Personal branding photography goes much further. It's a full collection of images that show who you are, how you work, and what it feels like to work with you. Rather than relying on one photograph, you build a bank of images you can use consistently across your website, social media, press features and speaking profiles. Think of a headshot as an introduction and personal branding photography as the whole story.
-
Personal branding photography is a collection of professional images specifically designed to represent you and your business online. Unlike a standard headshot session, a personal branding shoot captures your personality, your working environment, and the details that make your business distinctive. The images are created with a specific purpose in mind: to help you show up consistently and confidently across your website, LinkedIn profile, social media, PR features and marketing materials. For many of my clients it becomes the point at which they finally feel comfortable being visible in their business.
-
Most clients benefit from having a varied bank of images showing different expressions, outfits, environments and scenarios. This gives you the flexibility to post consistently on social media, update your website, pitch for press features and keep your LinkedIn profile current without using the same image repeatedly. The number of images you receive depends on the package you choose. I offer different options depending on how many images you need and what you want to use them for, and we'll discuss this during your discovery call so you leave with exactly what your business needs.
-
It really depends on what you need, and we'll work that out together before you book. Whatever we agree, there's no rushing on the day. The pace is whatever works for you.
-
Once you book your session I'll send you a detailed preparation guide covering clothing, colours, accessories, hair and make-up so you feel confident and prepared on the day. We'll also go through everything together on your pre-shoot prep call. If you'd like to start thinking about it now, I've written a full practical guide covering everything from colours that work on camera to the practicalities most people forget: What to Wear for a Personal Branding Photoshoot.
-
Sessions can take place at your workplace, at a location that reflects your brand, or I can suggest from a range of tried and tested locations across London that work beautifully on camera. The right location depends on your brand, your industry and the style of images you need. We'll work this out together during the planning stage so that every element of the shoot, including where we shoot, tells the right story about you and your business.
-
Absolutely, and you're in very good company. Most of my clients arrive saying exactly the same thing. I specialise in working with women who feel uncomfortable in front of the camera, and my entire approach is built around making the experience feel relaxed, guided and enjoyable. I'll direct your poses, expressions and movements throughout the session so you never have to wonder what to do. By the end, almost every client says some version of the same thing: that was so much better and more fun than I expected. You can read more about how I work with camera-shy clients here.
-
Don’t worry, sensitive retouching is part of the process. I'll take care of the things you can't control: spots, shadows, tiredness. So you're not worrying about those on top of everything else. You'll still look like yourself. Just yourself on a really good day.
-
Yes. Don’t worry, I'm not airbrushing you into someone else. I'll sensitively address the temporary things. The things that are just part of who you are, I leave. The result is you, at your very best.
